I made a video last week to share with our VBS volunteers. During a training class, I showed them some hand motions to teach the children the main point for each day. They asked for a video, so I thought it may be helpful for them to see Brynna do them, too. That would help them see what the kids are capable of and how to work with them. I knew this would be an interesting process. I knew there may be a rider involved in which the actress made unreasonable demands. What I didn’t count on was that the talent would drive the director to drink. (I know, I know. I should have. Rookie mistake.)
My plan was that we record the 4 main points and I send it to the volunteers. Easy. Simple. Not a big deal.
My sidekick had a different plan. She needed to stop periodically to “get her wiggles out,” she insisted we break between most points so she could approve the playback, and once she had to “stretch her face” before we could go on.
I got at least a clip of each main point to send to the volunteers. I also got an outtake reel.
1. During the brief seconds where she watches me before she does the motions, you’ll notice that Brynna shakes a bit. She sometimes holds her mouth funny or focuses her gaze at one spot. People often don’t believe me, but she has so much energy that it takes physical effort to hold it inside. She’s literally straining to stand still.
2. Don’t even ask about the chair. I have no idea what that was.
3. It’s not too late to register your kids for VBS! Go to second.org for info and you can register at the door! (shameless plug? why yes, it is.)
